When is Prime Day?

Since the very first Prime Day in 2015, the event has always been held in mid-July every year. Since the Amazon Prime Day is no longer a single day event, this year event is most likely to be a 48-hours sale on Wednesday July 15 & Thursday July 16. The sale usually takes off at 12am PT until 11:59pm the next day. It is also interesting to know that deals pegged to Prime Day will actually begin before the Prime Day, so at this point, July 1 is when you can expect to watch for Prime Day perks around Amazon.

How does Prime Day work?

Since the Prime Day is held in mid-July, Amazon begins “early deals” for Prime members to build anticipation leading up to the main event. You can see some good discounts on Amazon’s own offerings including Echo / Alexa devices, AmazonBasics products or Amazon Music Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited. For the main event, thousands of deals go live in batches, including “Prime Early Access Deals” and “Lightning deals” that are available in limited quantities for a limited time.

Amazon publishes lightning deals a few hours before they go live on Prime Day. The Amazon App has a “Watch” tool that will let you subscribe to push notifications when the lightning deals go live. If you see a lightning deal you want, you can set a reminder in the Amazon app to let you know when that deal is ready to shop.

Possible Delay / Postponement of Prime Day due to COVID-19:

Update - 2020.06.02The Amazon’s annual Prime Day, which is usually held in July, is possibly being moved to August due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon has struggled to keep up with the spike in sale recently as millions have switched to online shopping at Amazon and other retailers. Having enough stock and delivery of millions of items have been greatly affected in current situation. The 48-hour sale last year was Amazon’s biggest shopping event ever, larger even than Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined according to Amazon, with Prime members buying more than 175 million items during the Prime Day event.
